DARIEN LIBRARY LECTURE: STEPHEN SONDHEIM'S 'INTO THE WOODS' WITH GIL HAREL:
2/24/22 7pm-8pm
Darien Library
1441 Post Road, Darien, CT

"Into the Woods presents the audience with a story that interweaves aspects of various fairy tales, including those of Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, Cinderella, and more. Rather than a lighthearted, wholesome story with a happy ending, Sondheim and book writer James Lapine created a thought-provoking allegory that cuts to the core of the human condition. Framed by an ambitious score, the musical tackles timeless themes including maturation, wish fulfillment, and community responsibility." "Gil Harel (PhD, Brandeis University) is a musicologist and music theorist whose interests include styles ranging from western classical repertoire to jazz and musical theater. Previously, he served on the faculty at CUNY Baruch College (where he was awarded the prestigious "Presidential Excellence Award for Distinguished Teaching")" (Darien Library- Click here for more information and to register.)
