MODERN NEW CANAAN: EVOLUTION OF DESIGN + THREE ICONIC HOUSES

The New Canaan Museum & Historical Society will broadcast 2 programs: the first will be a brief presentation on how New Canaan became a destination for mid-century modern homes and what made the work of these architects distinctive. The second will be a film by Devon Chivvis exploring 3 New Canaan icons-  the Celanese House designed by Edward Durrell Stone, the Chivvis House designed by Eliot Noyes with an addition by Alan Goldberg, and the Boissonais House designed by Philip Johnson. A roundtable discussion with homeowners, the filmmaker and architects will end the night. For more information, click here

MODERN HOUSE DAY TOUR

Now taking place over 2 days, the Modern House Day Tour, the tradition first started by legendary architect Eliot Noyes himself in 1949takes visitors on a docent-led tour of New Canaan's architectural masterpieces. On October 23rd, there will be a morning symposium organized by Cole Akers, the Glass House's Curator and Special Projects Manager. After the symposium, enjoy a tour of New Canaan's modern houses where architect docents explain significant features and point out other New Canaan landmarks. The tour is followed by an evening cocktail reception where designers, architects and visitors will gather. Click here for tickets.

BAUHAUS 1919-1933: ORIGINS AND EVOLUTION
